Visa Information for Switzerland (also incl. the Principality of Liechtenstein)

Status: Updated 11 June 2008

 

The following visa rules apply for holders of the "Republic of China" and the "Republic of 
China Taiwan" ordinary passports.

 

A) with a valid Schengen visa (Type of Visa: C)

No separate visa for Switzerland is required provided the following conditions are fulfilled:
  1) Passport holder must have a valid, unrestricted, single/multi-entry Schengen visa*
(Type of Visa: C)
  2) The trip is intended for either the following purpose:
      - tourism
      - visit
      - business
      - medical treatment & cure
      - participation in science, cultural, religious or sports activities
      - temporary coverage by media
      - company training
      - transport of goods/persons in or through Switzerland (transit) by a driver of  foreign
         registered  company
  3) Max. period of stay: up to 3 months depend on Schengen visa's validity and total stay

 

In case of a Schengen transit visa (valid for all Schengen states) only transit through
Switzerland is possible (no stay).

 

In case of a Schengen visa with single entry free entry and stay allowed only if Schengen
visa has not been used yet.  It is therefore highly recommended to obtain a multiple entry
Schengen visa.

 

(*Schengen countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden).

B) without valid Schengen visa*

A separate visa for Switzerland is required for business, tourism or visiting purposes
under the following conditions:

  • Application Form

  • Passport and 1 copy of passport first page with full name, photo and passport number (validity of at least 90 days after  leaving Switzerland)

  • One photo (recent date,  undamaged)

  • Copy of ID card

  • English employment  certificate  from Taiwanese company

  • Invitation letter from Swiss company or recent inter- communication letter

  • Application Form (applicant under 18 years old, the form should be signed by parents)

  • Passport and 1 copy of passport first page with full name, photo and passport number (validity of at least 90 days after leaving Switzerland)

  • One photo (recent date, undamaged)

  • Copy of ID card

  • Employment  certificate from Taiwanese company or bank statement (either English or Chinese version)

  • Round trip flight  ticket with 1 copy

  • Application Form (applicant under 18 years old, the form should be signed by parents)

  • Passport and 1 copy of passport first page with full name, photo and passport number (validity of at least 90 days after leaving Switzerland)

  • One photo (recent date, undamaged)

  • Copy of ID card

  • Guarantee Letter (fill out separate form and send to friend/relative in Switzerland to guarantee for your stay and to have it approved by Swiss Alien Police; requires approx. 2-4 weeks for processing) 

  • Round trip flight ticket with 1 copy

※ For visiting purpose under 30 days stay, Guarantee Letter permit can be exempted,
but the invitation letter from Switzerland with Passport copy is needed.
 
For visiting purpose over 30 days and under 3 months stay, Guarantee letter
permit is needed.

C) for student visa
 

A student  who plans to studying or learning in Switzerland is required to apply a student visa before leaving to Switzerland.
 

a.) For studying up to three months, the student is required to submit the same documents as requested for a tourism visa.  In addition, plus a confirmation letter from the Swiss school is needed. 

b.) For studying over three months, the student (over 18 years old) is requested to come for an interview at the Trade Office of Swiss Industries and submit the following documents:

1.)  3 application forms

2.)  3 photos (recent date, undamaged)

3.)  4 copies of acceptance/confirmation letter from the Swiss school

4.)  3 copies of the school enrolment receipt

5.)  3 copies of the bank statement (min. 1 million TW Dollar)

6.)  3 copies of the highest graduation certificates (including junior and senior high school, &
the highest graduate certificates)

7.)  3 copies of an English guarantee statement

8.)  1 copy of ID card

9.)  3 copies of the passport, first page

10.) 3 copies of TOEFL or IELTS or TOEIC score etc…, if possible

 

Please note that in some cases the Swiss Alien Police may require additional document, the applicant who is  over the age of 25, please submit some more special documents as follows;

 

     1.)   3 copies of the curriculum vitae (CV)

     2.)   3 copies of the study plan

     3.)   3 copies of study motivation

 

Visa proceeding time : 1 – 2 months or more, after interview/submission of the complete
document
 

Visa fee   :  NT$1,600.-

Postage   :  NT$250.-

 

 

D) Residence in Switzerland without employment or gainful
     activity (retirement)

 

The following basic conditions must be fulfilled:

  1. The applicant must be at least 60 years old and retired from all 
    employment and gainful activity.

  2. The applicant must have close ties with Switzerland (e.g. relatives).

Additional requirements may be requested by specific Cantons where 
residence is sought

 

Procedure
If resident in Taiwan, you are required to submit:

  1. Three duly completed and signed application forms per applicant.
    The desired place of residence and Canton must be stated.

  2. Two recent passport-sized photos.

  3. A copy of your passport.

  4. An extract from his/her curriculum vitae/résumé indicating previous
    places of residence, employment and gainful activities, date of retirement, 
    family members and their places of residence.

  5. A statement confirming that the applicant is not or will not perform any
    gainful activity either in Switzerland or abroad.

  6. A statement containing exact details of his/her income and assets,
    with official proof and/or bank statements.

  7. A written confirmation that he/she intends to live permanently in
    Switzerland and not maintain any other domicile abroad.

Documents must be in one of the official Swiss languages (German, French
or Italian).
Processing time: minimum 4 months

Visa fee: NT$ 1,600
